Magic Lapland Adventure

On this 7 days Lapland winter tour, we go to Swedish & Finnish Lapland and make a short visit to Norway to check out the breathtaking scenery with the fjords and the Atlantic Ocean. We visit the world-famous Jukkasjärvi Icehotel, do awesome activities like dog-sledding and snowmobiling, visit Sami people and meet the reindeer, have a sauna night and probably see some Northern Lights! We start and finish in Stockholm. In Swedish Lapland - we stay in Kiruna and Abisko National Park, in Finish Lapland - you will explore a wilderness resort near Rovaniemi.

Duration: 7 days / 6 nights
  • Transport in a bus (2 overnight bus rides)

  • You'll find showers and toilets in the corridor
  • Self-service (you have to clean the kitchen after use and your rooms in the morning before check-out)

Detailed Program

Please note some changes of the program might occur.
Day 1, Stockholm
We will meet at the departure point in the afternoon where we will board the bus that takes us overnight to the far north. The majority of day 1 is a travel day. On the bus, you have plenty of time to get to know your travel mates and watch some movies.
Day 2, Korvala - (B, L, D)
In the morning, when you wake up, we have arrived at the camp in Finnish Lapland, North of the Arctic Circle! Get ready for a day full of activities. After breakfast, it’s time to settle in and discover the surroundings. Here you can use the free of charge snowshoes, cross-country ski, kick sledges and ice fishing kit. During lunchtime, a light meal is served. The surroundings are beautiful, with deep forests and a frozen lake. In the evening enjoy a dinner with local specialities.  The evening ends with an ultimate sauna experience with a freezing arctic swim - a tradition that should not be missed, when in Finland!
Day 3 Korvala – Rovaniemi – Kiruna (B)
After a tasty breakfast, it’s time to leave the camp with our first stop not far away. Welcome to Santa Claus's Village at Napapiiri where you will meet the man himself. Around midday, we travel to Rovaniemi city where you will have more free time for an optional visit to famous Arktikum Museum where you can learn about Arctic nature and the Sami culture. Then we continue our journey to Kiruna in Sweden, where we stay two nights.
Day 4, Kiruna (*D)
The next day starts with a snowmobile tour and visit of Jukkasjärvi. In this small village, you will find the famous Ice Hotel and you learn about its history and rooms during a guided tour. Explore the rooms, try the beds and have a drink in a glass made of ice served in The Ice Bar. Later the day, it's your choice how you wish to spend your the day in Kiruna. If the date matches,  you have the option of doing a mine tour, this is the biggest underground mine in the world! Kiruna is an ever-changing town due to the size of the mine, the whole town will one day be relocated to different areas due to the expansion of the mine. Or you can book Northen light horseback riding activity which takes you to the wild nature. 
*On NY tour, 31st of December, dinner is included in the tour package.

Day 5 Kiruna – Narvik – Abisko
This morning we start travelling west, there's a good chance to spot elk, reindeer and other wild animals along the way. We will be passing the Scandinavian mountain range with spectacular scenery of peaks, fjords and later the Atlantic Ocean arriving into Norway. Fancy a dip in the ocean anyone? The area around Narvik is not only stunningly beautiful but also holds a history related to WWII, when it was a battlefield. We then leave Norway behind and travel back to Sweden arriving in Abisko National Park where we stay the night. Abisko is known to be one of the few ultimate places in the world to observe the Aurora Borealis! Here we spend the evening at a traditional Sami style teepee with an open fire and some hot drinks, while waiting for an amazing Northern Light appearance.
Day 6 Abisko – Stockholm
In the morning, It's free time for optional activities (Ice climbing or Cross-country skiing) in the Abisko area, arranged by the tourist organization. Alternatively, take a hike in the area to enjoy the exceptional nature. In the afternoon, we visit the local Sami people, the indigenous people of Northern Scandinavia. You will learn first-hand the history and get an insight into the Sami way of life. You will get to meet their reindeer while learning why this animal is so important to the Sami people.  After this visit, we start our overnight journey back to Stockholm through Lapland. We will have dinner stop on the way in a restaurant.
Day 7 Stockholm
In the morning, we arrive back to Stockholm, where we started. It's time to say goodbye to the many new friends and carry the Lapland Magic memory.

Optional Activitites

Lapland offers a lot of amazing activities. Some of them need to be booked in advance and some of them you can book with us and we forward your booking to the activity company. Some have guaranteed departure whilst others need a minimum number of persons. Possible cancellation of any of the two activities will be announced on day 1 of the tour.
Husky Safari 5 km (Drive your own sled!)
When: Day 2
Price: 70 EUR
Where: Korvala Wilderness Resort
Booking: You can book this activity on Scanbalt website. Pre-booking closes 14 days before departure. Booking on the spot may be available if places left.
Payment: 5 EUR booking fee to Scanbalt / 65 EUR on the spot to the organizer (payment by cash or card).
Duration: approximately 1 hour in total, including instruction, 2 persons/sled (driving ca 5 km, ca 30 minutes). The route may be altered for safety reasons or due to poor weather conditions. 
Description: On this safari, you will see how much fun dog sledding is. We start by teaching you the necessary driving skills and then set off with our huskies through the forest and over the hills. Participants usually travel in pairs, each taking turns to drive the sled. The route can be challenging and the speed will vary according to weather conditions and the time of day.
Snowmobile Safari
When: Day 2
Price: 70 EUR
Where: Korvala Wilderness Resort
Booking: You can book this activity via Scanbalt. Pre-booking closes 14 days before departure. Booking on the spot may be available if places left.
Payment: 5 EUR booking fee to Scanbalt / 65 EUR on the spot to the organizer (payment in cash or with card).
Required: driving licence
Duration: approximately 1½ hours in total including instruction, 2 persons/snowmobile. Before starting you will sign a paper for insurance. Signing that document means that you accept the conditions when damaging the snowmobile.
Description: On this safari, you will learn how to drive a snowmobile in the Arctic wilderness. After initial instruction, participants travel in pairs through the forest, each taking turns to drive the snowmobile. The route can be challenging and the speed will vary according to the conditions. The time spent driving the snowmobile is approximately 1 hour in total and that time does not include breaks. The distance driven in that time depends on the weather conditions and the skills of the participants and may be altered for safety reasons, or due to poor weather conditions.
Northern lights tour on horseback

Where: Kiruna. You will be picked up at the hostel and go to an area outside the town.

Payment: 6 EUR booking fee to Scanbalt / 1200 SEK in cash on the spot to the organizer

Duration: about 4,5 hours, 15.45-20.15 (Oct-Feb), 17.15-21.45 (1-24 of March)
We pick you up in Kiruna and go by car to our horse farm westwards. Together we prepare the horses for riding and in the winter evening, we go for a shorter riding tour in easy pace through many hundred-year-old forests nestled against the mountain range. We hope we can see the beautiful northern lights and a clear sky with all the stars. We are probably going to see some moose during the evening. When you come back you will be served dinner consisting our local specialities like game or fish. You get to know more about animals, nature and culture while sitting around the fire in the goahti (Sami hut). After we bring you back. This tour is certified by the Swedish Ecotourism Society’s label, Nature’s Best.

NB! Note that the Combi-tour, Horse-riding and the Mine tour all take place at the same time, so you can only choose one of those 3.
Ice climbing
Organizer: The Swedish Tourist Organisation (STF)
When: Day 6, 10 AM-1 PM
Price: 600 SEK
Where: Meet at the reception in Abisko. The activity takes place close to the hostel.
Payment: 6 EUR booking fee to Scanbalt, 540 SEK on the spot to the organizer (payment by cash or card).
The number of places: Minimum 4 and maximum 6.
Description: This 3-hour activity takes place a short walk from our hostel in Abisko National Park at about 10 AM on day 5. Ice climbing is considered to be one of the most exciting forms of climbing. On this half-day course, you'll learn the basic techniques. By means of crampons, rope and ice axes we’ll climb the steep icefalls in the canyon. Climbing activity takes place only when there is enough naturally frozen ice.
Try out Back-country skiing
Organizer: The Swedish Tourist Organisation (STF)
When: Day 6, 10 AM-1 PM
Price: 600 SEK
Where: Meet at the reception in Abisko. The activity takes place next to the hostel.
Payment: 6 EUR booking fee to Scanbalt, 540 SEK to the organizer on the spot (payment in cash or by card).
The number of places: Minimum 6 and maximum 16.
Description: Learn to ski in the backcountry! Join us on a classic cross-country ski-tour for 3 hours. This tour is for you, who have never tried skiing before. We provide instructions and teach you the basics of cross-country skiing. This day is also a great way to enjoy Abisko National Park at an easygoing pace.
Please note that if you have signed up for an optional activity you have to take part of that activity or pay for it without participation. You can cancel the activity until 14 days before departure!

Visit the Kiruna Iron Mine (no pre-booking by Scanbalt)
Organizer: The Tourism Office of Kiruna
When: Certain days. Note that in our program the only possible time for you to go on a Mine Tour is Day 4. So check online if the tour takes place on that day!
Where: Meeting is outside the tourism office, a special bus will take you down to the mine.
Booking/Price/Payment: Bookings are made online directly with the tourism office (if there are places left, you can try to book when we arrive in Kiruna, but it can happen that the tour is full). Price 360 SEK/Adult; 260 SEK/Student
Description: Come down underground to the world’s biggest underground iron-ore mine! A coach from the Tourist Office in Kiruna will take us straight into the mountain and down to the exhibition mine LKAB InfoMine, to the level of 540 meters. To secure a seat it’s good to book a tour in advance.
Artikum Museum in Rovaniemi (no pre-booking by Scanbalt)
Arktikum provides information on Arctic issues and tells stories about Lapland. An Arktikum exhibition is an enormous information package of what's going on today in the evolving Arctic region. It will also educate you about Lappish history, culture and nature from Rovaniemi to the further reaches of Upper Lapland. Arktikum is your source of knowledge when travelling to the North. Price: adults 12 EUR, students 8 EUR.



There are no general students discount on Magic Lapland Adventure.


The following cards and memberships give you 15% discount on the main package.
The discount cannot be claimed after the booking and a valid membership card must be brought to the departure.
If the person cannot show a valid proof of membership etc he/she must pay the remaining amount of the price as soon as possible or have to leave the tour with no refund.
