Lapland Fairy Tale - Christmas Edition

Finnish Lapland is a unique destination to explore, especially in winter! You can visit a reindeer farm and take a sleigh ride with the reindeer and meet the Santa Claus and his little helpers in their village! We cross the Arctic Circle and get a chance to see the breathtaking Northern Lights! On this tour we will be staying in hostel or cottages, in shared rooms (2-8 beds). Most cabins will have basic cooking facilities (fridge, microwave, kitchen ware). The rooming lists will be made all together on first day of the tour.
We will be travelling with toursit bus, and our journey will contain 2 overnight rides. The bus has A/C, TV and WC; there are couple plug sockets; wifi is not available on the bus. Copenhagen-Stockholm-Copenhagen travel is done by train.

Tour Program: Christmas Edition

Day 1, 23rd December, Departure
Meeting at assigned departure point and overnight drive towards Finnish Lapland. We will be having regular comfort stops along the road and watch some movies during the evening hours. On the bus you have plenty of time to get to know your travel mates as well as learn more about the destination. 
Day 2, 24th December, Korvala (B, D)
In the morning you will wake up in Korvala and have breakfast together Korvala is a village in Lapland, north of the Arctic Circle. The surroundings are beautiful, deep forests and frozen lakes. We gather for an information session, where the local hostess introduces us the accommodation and procedure for signing up to optional activities. Time to settle in and discover the surroundings, you can borrow for free snow shoes, cross country skis, sledges and ice fishing kit. The entire group will have short reindeer safari together, optional to do short husky safari. In the evening we have typical Finnish Christmas dinner together and later it’s time for sauna and an arctic swim - tradition that cannot be missed once in Finland.
Day 3, 25th December, Korvala (D)
In the morning, you have the possibility to try the ice fishing, do cross-country skiing and snow-shoe hikes. Today we also do the Otional activities: husky safari, snowmobiling and reindeer sled rides. We get to meet the local Siberian Huskies - all are all beautiful pedigrees from the working sled-dog line. Activities are not included to the tour price, if you want to join them, then we advise you to book your spot in advance.  Joining activities on the spot is alos possible, but limited to availability.In the evening we have dinner all together and later enjoy the cozy evening in kota tent, with open fire and hot drinks. During the night we keep the eyes open for the Northern lights!
Day 4, 26th December, Korvala – Rovaniemi – Korvala (D)
Today we make a short trip to Rovaniemi - the capital of Finnish Lapland. We first visit Santa Claus in his village and take a photo with him, and later we have some free time in Rovaniemi city. We advise you to visit the famous Artikum museum ( *Be sure to check the opening times, they can be different during Christmas holidays.
In the afternoon we are back in Korvala. We enjoy the dinner and later it's again time for the sauna!
Day 5, 27th December, Departure home
Moring is free for our last hikes and skiing sessions in Korvala, and rround lunch time we start our journey back home. You drive during the night making regular comfort stops, and arrive in our hometowns during the next day.
Day 6, 28th December, Arrival
Arrival home during the day. Estimated arrival time for each your city will be shown in booking process.

Optional Activities in Korvala

Book the activity while making the reservation of the tour. For safaris we take pre-payment 5 Eur. Rest of the amount is to be paid on DAY 2  of the trip, when you arrive in Korvala! Possibility to pay in cash and with card.
If you have signed up for and optional activity you have to take part in that activity or pay for it without participation, there might be a possibility to change to another activity instead but this can only be diceded by the organizers on the spot. You can also find another passenger from your group to take over your place, kindly ask tour manager for assistance. If passenger just does not show up for the activity, he/she will still have to pay afterwards!
Snowmobile Safari
After initial instruction, participants travel in pairs through the forest, each taking turns to drive the snowmobile. The route can be challenging and the speed will vary according to the conditions. The time spent driving the snowmobiles is approximately 1 hour in total (½ hr/person, if both drive). The distance driven in that time depends on the weather conditions and the skills of the participants, and may be altered for safety reasons, or due to poor weather conditions.
Duration approximately 1½ hours in total including instruction and fitting of helmets, 2 persons/snowmobile
Price 70 Eur/person (5 EUR booking fee to Scanbalt, rest of 65 EUR on the spot directly to organizer)., single driving supplement 35€/person.


Husky safari  (drive your own sled)
On this safari you will see how much fun dog sledding is. We start by teaching you the necessary driving skills and then set off with our huskies through the forest and over the hills. Participants usually travel in pairs, each taking turns to drive the sled. The route can be challenging and the speed will vary according to weather conditions and the time of day.
Duration: approx 1 hour in total, including instruction (driving ca 5 km, ca 30 minutes). The route may be altered for safety reasons or due to poor weather conditions. 
Price: 70 EUR/per person (5 EUR booking fee to Scanbalt, rest of 65 EUR on the spot directly to organizer).
Reindeer Safari
We ride in sleighs pulled by reindeer to our reindeer herding corral, where Poro-Hannu, a local reindeer herder, explains how these beautiful animals of the north are cared for throughout the year. We make tea and coffee on a campfire and have time to chat with Poro-Hannu about his work. 
Duration: approximately 1½ hours in total, 65 EUR/per person. (5 EUR booking fee to Scanbalt, rest of 60 EUR on the spot directly to organizer).

Keeping the warm air around your body is what keeps you warm: 
*Wear layers allowing air to circulate. Like wool or thermal underwear. Thicker wool, fleece or down layers and also a windproof outer layer (jacket and trousers). 
*Hats and gloves/mittens are important. Mittens that don’t separate your fingers keep you warmer.
*Have spacious shoes so you can wear thick wool socks and still have plenty of space to wiggle your toes.
